This incredible original 1920s black silk beaded flapper dress is in impeccable condition for piece of its era, with no damage to the intricate beadwork to note and a beautiful line. Sleeveless with a scoop neckline both front and reverse, the dress is arranged in 3 x tiers of fabric, an empire line beaded bodice, a plain black silk skirt and a wide beaded hemline with scalloped edging. The majority of the bead work consists of transparent rocaille beads which appear silver toned when they catch the light. The hem features a bold art deco pattern made up with an intricate arrangement of closely compact opalescent ivory and transparent bugle beads which again take on a metallic appearance in the light. At some point a modern zip fastening was added on the left side. There are no makers labels but the dress is of superb quality and exquisite workmanship. Extremely wearable, this beautiful piece is a rare find and would best suit a US size 4-6, UK size 8-10.
